Chapter 7.16 - SHUT-OFF VALVES

7.16.010 Required.

Every premises shall have a shut-off valve installed between the water meter and the first connection or branch beyond the meter. This valve shall stop water flow for the entire premises, and shall be in the control of the owner or occupant. The shut-off valve must be a brass hand wheel operated gate valve. Stop and waste type valves will not be permitted as they are a potential source of contamination. Existing services without such a shut-off valve will be allowed one shutoff and turnon without fee for installation of such a valve. After any shutoff, water service will not be restored until the required shut-off valve is installed and inspected by the district. (Res. 400 §1, 1984)
